Victim was hit near station around 9 p.m. Monday
ASBURY PARK -- A man rushed to the hospital Monday night after being hit by a train has died, a spokeswoman for NJ Transit confirmed.
The victim, who was not immediately identified, was hit by the Coast Line 4379 train at the Monroe Avenue grade crossing around 8:55 p.m., the spokeswoman said. The crossing is just east of the Asbury Park station.
None of the 58 passengers and crew aboard were injured, the spokeswoman also said.
The transit agency urged the public to cross only at designated areas and never against the signal.
