Traffic stop leads to gun, drug arrests in Wall Township

The occupants had guns and drugs in the vehicle, police said.

WALL TWP. -- A traffic stop for a faulty brake light Thursday night led to the arrests of two individuals for gun and drug offenses, police said on Friday.

Patrolman Jonathan Gramlich pulled over a vehicle shortly before midnight near the intersection of Route 35 and Wall Church Road, Wall police Detective Lt. Greg Carpino said in a statement. He said the vehicle had a non-working driver's side brake light.

The occupants of the vehicle, Scimel Jackson, 24, of Lakewood, and Lenasia Banks, 20, of Asbury Park, had weapons and drugs in the car, Carpino said.

Jackson and Banks were each charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful transportation of a firearm, possession of a firearm with drugs, certain persons not to posses weapons, possession of heroin (60 doses), possession of marijuana under 50 grams, intent to distribute heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold. Bail for Jackson was set at $98,000 with no 10-percent option, while bail for Banks was set at $98,000 with a 10-percent option.
