HOWELL -- A domestic argument at a Howell apartment complex escalated into a truck crash and shots fired at the truck driver on Monday night, authorities said.

The incident started around 8:15 p.m. in the Countryside Apartments off West Farms Road where police officers learned an argument between a man and a woman escalated into a confrontation with neighbors, police Chief Andrew Kudrick said.

Kudrick said the argument prompted two neighbors - brothers who live together in one of the apartments there on North American Drive - to confront the man. The man attempted to leave by getting in a box truck and driving away, but in the process crashed into several cars in the complex, Kudrick said.

The brothers fired several shots from handguns at the man through the box truck, Kudrick said. The driver was not hit and there were no reported injuries, he said.

The man drove off and the box truck was ultimately found by Freehold Township police near the Freehold Raceway Mall. The man was arrested and charged with domestic violence harassment offenses related to the argument with the woman, Kudrick said.

The neighbors, witnesses and the male driver were brought to police headquarters for questioning about the shooting, which remains under investigation.

Authorities did not release the identities of any of the suspects. He said the brothers and the neighbors involved in the argument are not related and do not know each other.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Detective Cpl. Nancy Carroll at 732 938-4575, ext. 2884 or at ncarroll@howellpolice.org.

The calls initially came in to police as a tractor trailer that hit a building, but that proved unfounded, Kudrick said.
